Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost to join as a customer?

There is no charge for shoppers to use the site.

Do I have to sign up to shop?

Yes. We ask you to sign up as a customer so that we can notify you of changes to your order should there be an issue. We obviously try to avoid any changes, but farmers are working with nature, and localised weather events may mean that a farmer is unable to fulfil some of their orders.

By signing up as a shopper we can also verify that you are a real person, which helps to keep the platform as secure as possible for everybody.

Can I cancel my order?

Our small-scale producers will be planning, picking, baking and packing the day before a Pantry opens to make sure that your order arrives to you fresh, and on time. As a result, you can only cancel your order before the shopping window has closed for that Pantry. Please make sure that you review your order closely before checkout.

What is a local producer?

A local producer is a farmer, baker, soap maker etc. that is within a 250km radius of a Pantry. This area may be reduced or extended depending on the growing region and the number of growers covering that specific area.

How much does it cost to join the platform as a local producer?

We operate on a subscription model that is paid monthly.

The monthly subscription fee for each Pantry is $25 (less than $7 per week).

Please notify us if you are a food co-op, charity or not-for-profit before you set up your producer profile. You will be emailed a discount code which will allow you to sell on the platform for $20 per calendar month (less than $5 per week).

As a producer, can I join and supply produce to multiple Pantries within my local area?

Yes, you can join multiple Pantries within your region. Each Pantry that you have joined will incur a subscription fee for that Pantry.

As a producer, where do my subscription fees go?

The People’s Pantry is responsible for back-end transaction fees incurred on Stripe, our payment gateway system. The monthly subscription packages go towards paying these fees and will contribute to improving the functionality of the site and the experience for all users. Additional revenue raised allows us to offer additional support and training to our not-for-profit hosts and to generate media and marketing campaigns that aim to raise the profile of local producers, and further expand the reach of The People’s Pantry.

How can my not-for-profit organisation host a Pantry in my local area?

Please email hello@thepeoplespantry.com.au to indicate your interest in hosting a Pantry. You will be contacted to discuss your suitability and directed to sign up as a Host if your organisation meets our requirements and if there is no other Pantry operating in the area.
